As a teacher, it is a priority if mine to instill in children an intrinsic desire to be their best--because they want to. I always try not to use external rewards, but I do like to encourage positive behavior here at school. Many times, I verbally thank a student for "showing me she is ready to learn", or point out that a student "is really helping to clean up the entire class". When children follow through with class expectations because it makes them feel good, they are intrinsically rewarded for their 'good choices'.
A few teachers here at ABS have been using these sweet little tickets to reinforce behaviors we want to see in class. The purpose of handing a few of these out each day is to give children a little boost and remind them how wonderful it feels to be on track, and that teachers (and students) take notice of all the great choices being made.
So, if you see any of these "Caught You Tickets" come home, please ask your child how she/he earned them.
